By preaching the gospel we are hasting our Lord's return. And that's what God ask us to do: 2 Peter 3:12.
If we had done this appointed work, the Lord Jesus would have come to our earth in power and great glory.
But maybe we believe that the other churches are helping us in this work, we rely on their action (How many times I heard this).
The gospel is the Good News of the atonement, and the atonement has not been finished at the cross, there is still an atonement (the final one) going on in Heaven right now. If the churches don't preach this, they don't preach the gospel.
